Must-Watch Films

I have A LOT of movies yet to watch so it's a good thing that at my job there is plenty of downtime and I get to log on to Netflix and watch some films.

I put a list of movies to watch on the left side of this blog.  They consist of Yahoo's 100 Movies to Watch (‎from 8/1/11) and at least 60+ of IMBD's top 250 (from 1/20/13).  I originally wanted to choose 50 but there are some that I do want to watch.

So from this list, what have you watched and is among your favorite?  What have you told yourself for a long time you're going to watch?

3 Years Together (and there's many more to come)

We've been planning for some time Date Nights and today was officially our first one although it was more of a Date Day.  Our original plan was to celebrate our 3 year anniversary which was Saturday the 12th.  Due to me having to work then we decided to do it today which was our day off together.

We began by going to the Cincinnati Library downtown.  They had the Golden Legacy event where they featured original art from 65 years of Golden Books.

The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County

We brought our little guy, Pepito

I remember this

... and this

And how could I forget the Poky Little Puppy

Afterwards we went to our lunch date.  Due to our Vegan project this month it was only obvious that we go to a Vegan Restaurant.  We decided to go to the The Loving Cafe

This was our only way in and out of the parking lot.

Choices

Looks like someone got their food first!!!

First came our appetizer of course:

Grilled Dumplings

This was my first attempt at Tofu.
 And finally our dinners:

Buffalo Wrap (don't worry, it's Gardein Strips) and Raw Pizza

Looks like my Love is hungry

Yoinks

Mmmmmmm, Buffalo Wrap

So that was our first Date Night.  We were also going to the movies to see Les Miserables but in the end it didn't happen.  But it was still a good day for us.  And I got to check off some of my Day Zero Project:  #7 Take France on a date once month, #13 Try 5 new restaurants, #27 Try 5 new foods (done).  But of course, thanks to the woman I love, we got to make some cupcakes:
Ingredients, check!

No Valentinas were used in the making
vrrrrrrr

Baby Fatz says they're almost done

A little glaze and....

Baby Fatz presents:  Vanilla Chai Cupcakes!!!!

So as you can see, it was a great day.  I'd also like to point out that I bought a little something from the library:
We just brought him in and he's already chasing cars.

Resisting Temptations

I was pondering a few days ago as to why I'm not being successful with what I want to do and the obvious reason is that I'm trying to do things on my own.  On the one hand, not going to the gym often and not taking pictures daily, on the other hand still making notes of good things that happen to me every day.  However as time goes by and either not much happens or I'm not having a good day, it gets harder to think back to what was a positive in my day.

Now that's not to say I'm completely unsuccessful.  Our vegan project this month has been going very well, except for a few things which we later found out were not vegan, as per Frances's Blog, the marinara we've had as well as sugar are not vegan.  One bit of good news however we've switched sugar for raw agave.

It was a bit hard at first.  A day after my previous post I came into work and one of my coworkers offered me pizza.  I made an excuse that I had just eaten and plus my stomach wasn't agreeing with me, "maybe later" I told her.  Later that day, one of coworkers goes to the first floor to pick up fresh pizza that was brought to us on the evening shift.  He sets it down on his desk (which is right next to mine) and offers me the same.  Once again I had to object.

It's kind of hard to explain to people, I think, especially me being a guy.  People judge too much without realizing it.  I remembered a few months ago Frances and I decided to go meatless, so one of my coworkers offered me some fried chicken.  I thanked her and declined.  She insisted so I explained as to why I was refusing.  She gave me a weird look and began lecturing me about how we need meat and protein, etc.  I just nodded and said I wasn't going to break my promise, which I didn't.

One good thing I've noticed about myself, aside from feeling very good and going down to 208.8 lbs this morning, is that it's been easier for me to not spend money this month.  See, even though we've been eating very well for these past few months, I still have a sweeter tooth than Frances does, so anytime we would go grocery shopping we would get a candy bar, or when I was at my previous job I would go to Kroger and buy myself a pastry.  Now, thanks to our vegan project this month, I have to skip all this extra spending and avoid the vending machine at work that accepts credit cards, for fear of breaking my promise this month.

I'll leave you with this photo of a new soup I tried this week:

Mmmm, Cookies

It was a slow day in the Jotting Good Things Department.

1.  Nap before work

Today was my off day but late last week I agreed to work overtime for a few hours today.  So around noon today Frances and I were feeling really tired and took what should have been a +30 minute nap.  It was less than 20 minutes but we felt re-energized.

2.  4 hour work day

'Nuff said.

3.  Little traffic after work

6 pm is usually crazy... not today.

4.  Butter Bean Cookies

I've had bacon on cookies, but beans in cookies... sign me up!

Before...
... After

 5.  Sweet & Sour Cabbage "Rolls"

They were supposed to be rolls but due to only taking note of the ingredients we had no instructions.  But it was a very good dish.

Happy New Year 2013

Happy New Year everyone!

So as the picture above says, Make it so.

After posting in November I was going back and forth as to what should I do; I want to take a picture daily, I want to do something new daily, maybe once a week, I want to write, I want to do this and that... Like so many others, I got overwhelmed with so much I want to do.  So there's two things I will definitely do daily and one I will try very hard to do:

1.  Go the gym at least twice a week (must do).

2.  Write down AT LEAST one good thing that happened each day (must do).

3.  A picture a day (try my best).

--

Today I started to make note of what has happened no matter how small and insignificant:

1.  Slept In

It's been a while but I was allowed to sleep in until 10:30 am.  Slept like a baby.

2.  Checked my weight:  211.2 lbs

Not a bad way to start the year.

For many years my Illinois drivers license used to say 235 lbs when really I was 240 and up, until March of last year when we started changing our diet.  At the end of march I ballooned up to 255 lbs.  Not too shabby for 8 months of eating a whole lot better.

This month we shall embark on a new adventure:  Go vegan for the month of January.  Also as noted before I will start going back to the gym, at least twice a week.

3.  Tried Something New

Part of going vegan is saying Goodbye to milk.  It's OK, Rice milk you were delicious.

4.  Bonus

Ran out of shower gel today, so while shopping this morning I remembered to look for my Dove gel.  Bonus!

5.  Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler

Thanks to my future Parents-in-laws, I was finally able to buy the Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler this Christmas.  Today I decided to use it and am very happy with it.

6.  When Harry Met Sally on New Year's Day

There's a movie(s) for every holiday (season) and every January 1st this is the perfect movie.

7.  Realizing  correct dates for wedding and quinceañera

One of my nieces turns 15 this February and like all Mexican young ladies, a Quinceañera is in the works for her.  Quinceañeras celebrate a girl when she turns 15, sort of like a coming of age celebration.

When we went to visit our families this Christmas, it was brought up that her Quince would be moved from April 27th to May 4th.  Frances and I were a bit concerned due to a wedding on her family's side also on May 4th.  Fortunately today I noticed that her cousin's wedding is actually May 3rd.  Woo Hoo!

HASTA LUEGO AMIGOS
